Stand Up for Afghanistan

Our values and experiences as Jewish people profoundly shape our reaction to those fearing and fleeing persecution.

We are writing to Scott Morrison as members of the Jewish community who are deeply distressed by the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and we are urging him to take further action in response to this calamity.

In the words of Elie Wiesel:

When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men or women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must – at that moment – become the centre of the universe.”

While the situation in Afghanistan feels helpless—we always have our voice. The more signatures on our letter, the louder our calls will be and the harder they are to ignore.

At Stand Up, we won't be silent on important issues. If something is an affront to our human and Jewish values, we are obliged to speak up.

We are urging our Prime Minister to do more in the face of this horrific crisis in Afghanistan. We're calling on him to:

  1. Grant thousands of Afghan temporary visa holders in Australia permanent protection.
  2. Send additional aid to the region to help feed and shelter displaced Afghans.
  3. Offer 20,000 additional humanitarian places to Afghan refugees and urge other countries to do the same.

We're writing from Stand Up, on your behalf, so we won't add your name to the letter—we'll add the amount of people who have signed.
