Mitzvah Day

From 2026, Stand Up is joining forces with Mitzvah Day Australia, bringing together our combined strengths to expand the reach and impact of this powerful initiative.

The fit is a natural one. Stand Up works to mobilise the Australian Jewish community to play a crucial role in the broader society we share. Mitzvah Day is one of the most tangible expressions of this mission, creating space for social action, community connection, and leadership.

What is Mitzvah Day?

Mitzvah Day is a Jewish-led international movement, bringing together people of all faiths and backgrounds, to volunteer side-by-side.
Each year, over 55,000 people around the world commit to a day of social action.
Born in the UK, Mitzvah Day is built on the belief that we can all make a positive difference to our world by taking action together.

What is a Mitzvah?

The word Mitzvah comes from Jewish tradition, where it literally means a commandment. It is often used to mean a good deed or an act of kindness, which is an integral part of Jewish life and the basis for Mitzvah Day.
A Mitzvah is not just a means to an end, but the act itself is the point. "Ultimately, the reward of the mitzvah is the mitzvah itself."
That's the spirit Mitzvah Day is built on - that showing up for others, in and of itself, matters.

Is Mitzvah Day only for Jewish people?

Not at all, Mitzvah Day welcomes everyone. A mitzvah is simply a good deed, and that's what unites us.
We'd love our non-Jewish friends, partners, and neighbours to join in.
