Stand Up exists to channel the collective willpower, expertise and compassion of the Australian Jewish community to grasp and fulfil the values of social justice and Tikkun Olam. We envision our community realising a just Australia where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
We achieve our mission through our education programs as well as our partnerships with marginalised communities.
Where will this donation go
Eli has chosen to support our Derech Eretz program.
Stand Up has a unique and enduring relationship with the predominantly Aboriginal communities of Toomelah and Boggabilla. For 18 years, the affectionately titled ‘Jewish mob’ and these communities have fostered long-lasting friendships based on mutual respect, admiration and a desire to learn and grow from one another.
Derech Eretz involves young Jewish adults facilitating school holiday programs for Toomelah and Boggabilla’s youth (including kids around Eli's age), connecting with Elders and learning about First Nations histories and current affairs. During the program, Stand Up volunteers build rapport with the kids, encourage positive peer support dynamics, create fun activities as well as participate in education activities to broaden their own knowledge of First Nations Australia. It's also a really important part of our program that we educate and inspire our volunteers, because we want them to come home and be allies and advocates for First Nations people.
