Derech Eretz Application Form January 2022

Since 2005, Stand Up volunteers have been running fun school holiday programs in the rural communities of Toomelah and Boggabilla, and building a meaningful relationship with the elders and children.

Our youth program with the communities of Toomelah and Boggabilla (aka Derech Eretz) began in 2005 as a means of building a sustainable relationship with a First Nations community that would allow for intensive engagement and learning for volunteers, and provide useful services to the communities at the same time. The program takes Jewish young adults on two 10-day trips each year to Toomelah and Boggabilla, on the NSW/QLD border, to run school holiday programs for the kids. Activities include: sport, arts and crafts, swimming and youth leadership workshops.

Derech Eretz is the first step in the chain for our partnership. It's where new volunteers can come and build rapport with kids, encourage positive peer support dynamics and build the foundation for a generation long friendship and partnership with the young people in Toomelah and Boggabilla. Derech Eretz is the foundational stone on which our partnership and friendship is built.
